Hs 07.09.2009   De Pere  5   Green Bay Storm  6

The River Bandits dropped this heartbreaker in 12 innings to the Storm in NEWBL action.

De Pere scored two runs in the fourth when Joe Faulds walked, Jeff Riddle singled, and
Mike Brunette drove them in with a two RBI double.  They scored another run in the fifth
When Kevin Keller led off with a double, Charlie Mc Ginn walked, and Faulds drove in Keller with an RBI single. 

They led 3-0 until Storm tied it at 3-3 on a homer, two singles, and a double.  De Pere scored a single run in the eighth when Faulds walked, Riddle sacrificed him to second, and Brunette drove him in with a double.

Storm answered in the eighth with a single run to tie it up, but in the 12th  the Bandits went ahead yet again when Faulds doubled,  and Riddle doubled him in. 

Storm rallied once again in the twelfth plating two runs when, after two singles, a walk, and a strikeout, shortstop Riddle chose to go for the double play a slow-roller infield hit, but threw wide of second allowing the winning run to score.

Faulds was 2x4, Riddle was 2x5, Brunette was 2x6 with 3 RBI. 

De Pere’s pitching staff,  thinned with injuries, sent 4 pitchers to the mound, with Casey Meinecke going the last 5 issued 6K, 2 BB, and allowed 5 hits.  He took the loss, sharing the mound with Brandon Byrne, Brett Yost, and Cal Winters who together threw the first 7 innings.

The River Bandits had a chance to sweep the multiple-time state champion Legends in NEWBL play for the first time, but wound up splitting the twin bill at Appleton North High School Field.

In the first game the River Bandits scored three runs in the fourth on a double by Michael Brunette, a RBI single by David Cherney, and an RBI groundout by Brandon Bryne, and an RBI single by Bryan Fuss.

Cal Winters and Byrne held the Legends to two runs on 4K, 2BB, and held them to 5 hits.  Winters got the win and Byrne the save.

In the second game,  Byrne started and held Appleton scoreless until tiring in the 6th when Appleton plated three runs on three hits.  Jeremy Jensen in relief got the last two outs for De Pere. 

Appleton pitcher Kevin Kangas was dominant with De Pere Joe Faulds going 2 x 3 for De Pere, with Riddle and Casey Meinecke collecting De Pere’s other 2 hits.

06.28.09  De Pere  0/1    Green Bay Storm 6/6

After handing the Storm a loss earlier in the month at Vanden Plas Field, the River Bandits could not muster any offense in either game as the Storm took both ends of the double header. 

The Bandits had a chance to mount a challenge in the 4th inning when Joe Faulds singled, Michael Brunette walked, and pitcher Casey Meinecke singled.  Storm ended the threat with a double play and and a groundout.  Pitcher Hillscheim for the Storm allowed just 4 hits issuing 8 strikeouts in the first game. Charlie Mc Ginn, Joe Faulds, Casey Meinecke, and Andy Pichler had hits for the Bandits. 

Brandon Byrne took the loss for De Pere going all seven innings also striking out 8 while
allowing 10 hits including two home runs by Storm’s Rob Coe.

In the second game De Pere also collected only 4 hits, with 2 by Jeff Riddle and one each by Faulds and Meinecke.  Meinecke also held Green Bay scoreless until the 3rd inning when Storm scored a single run on two singles.   They came back to score two more in the 4th and three in the 5th, when Meinecke was relived by Jeff Riddle who held them scoreless the rest of the way.

De Pere is now  4-7 in the NEWBL, and 5 – 8 overall.

06.21.2009  River Bandits  5/2   Appleton Legends  4/1

Back in NEWBL action, De Pere made up some ground by sweeping the Appleton Legends by scores of 5-4 and 2-1 in two extra-inning games.

In the first game the Bandits again scored in the first frame when Jeff Riddle led off with a single, and stole 2nd and 3rd.  Charlie Mc Ginn walked and stole 2nd, and Brent Kakwitch plated Riddle on a fielder’s choice.  Michael Brunette singled in Mc Ginn.

Appleton answered scoring 3 in the third and 1 in the 4th off De Pere when starter Gavin Scray issued first a walk and allowed two singles, then in the 4th issued another walk and a double. 

The Bandits came back in the 6th to tie the game at 4 all when Kevin Keller after being hit by a pitch, Riddle singled and stole second, and Mc Ginn drove Keller in on a fielder’s choice.

De Pere needed to go to the 8th inning to score the sinning run when Mc Ginn singled, stole second, advanced on Brent Kakwitch’s fielder’s choice, and scored on David Cherney’s sac fly.

Winning pitcher Gavin Scray when all 8 innings.  He struck out 3, walked 6, and gave up 6 hits.  The Bandits committed 4 errors.  Jeff Riddle and David Cherney were both 2 x 5 with an RBI each. 

The second game was a 13 inning marathon with the Bandits stranding 14 baserunners until in the 13th,  they plated the winning run when Andy Pichler and Casey Meinecke reached on infield hits,  then reliever Jereme Jensen delivered a sac fly for the 2 – 1 win.

 The Bandits had scored their lone run in the 6th when Kevin Keller singled, Riddle bunted him to second, Mc Ginn singled, and Michael Brunette drove him in with an RBI single.

Bandits starter Brandon Byrne had cruised through the first six innings until Appleton  scored their lone run in the 7th on a single, wild pitch, and 2 fielder’s choices. 

Byrne went 9 innings scattering 5 hits on one strikeout and walked one.  In relief Jereme Jensen went 4 innings allowing 2 hits on three strikouts and one walk.  Jeff Riddle, Joe Faulds, and Scray were 2 x 4, and Charlie Mc Ginn was 3 x 5. 

06.19.2009   River Bandits 5  Waupaca Lakemen 3

The River Bandits traveled to Waupaca to face the Lakemen of the Badger Amateur Baseball League last Friday night and came home with the victory.

In the first, Jeff Riddle led off with a double and stole second.  Charlie Mc Ginn walked , stole second, and Brent Kakwitch drove in Riddle with a sac fly.  David Cherney singled home Mc Ginn.

The Lakemen scored a run in the second when starter Bryan Fuss allowed two singles, while the Bandits playetd another run in the 5th on singles by Mc Ginn and Kakwitch. The Lakemen answered with another run in the 5th when pitcher Casey Meinecke allowed two singles and a walk.

With the score 3-2, De Pere closed the door on the Lakemen in the 7th when Danny Linsmeyer and Joe Faulds walked, and Jeff Riddle singled in Faulds. Kakwitch doubled in Riddle.

Pitchers Fuss, Meinecke, Michael Brunette, and Brandon Byrne allowed just 4 hits and struck out 6 but issued 9 walks and hit two batters.  Jeff Riddle and  Brent Kakwitch were both 2 x 3, with Kakwitch driving in 4 of the Bandit runs.
